This project was on the third floor of a Victorian. It was a bedroom that I was turning into a home theater. The room had its own enclosed stairway and hall before entering. We decided to make this area a fun and dramatic introduction to the home theater. The walls were painted black and a mural artist painted the iconic figures on canvas then applied them like wallpaper. I used track lighting to light each of them. If you have an area in your home that is a transition space, has its own entrance, not easily seen from other parts of the home, you have the perfect opportunity to experiment, think out of the box, do something you would not normally do. Have fun!
This room was so comfortable when finished, I have to admit, I did not want to leave. It is a space to gather, a space to play, a space to watch your favorite movies, all at the same time. The inspiration for the design was the beautiful stained glass windows. The colors were taken and used in the fabrics, carpet, ceiling, and acoustical wall panels. The style was translated into Arts and Crafts which inspired the design of the wainscoting and the banquette. A leather sofa and a Stickley recliner finished everything off with the ultimate comfort and style, just perfect for this type of casual entertaining.
